Drive to Pergamum, the capital of the Kingdom of Pergamum during the Hellenistic period and one of the Seven Churches addressed in Revelation. In Pergamum, visit Asclepion, a famous medical centre 2000 years ago. This was the symbol of Asclepios, the god of medicine. It was a great medical center of its age, which rivaled and nearly overshadowed Epidaurus in Greece.

Then you make your way to the Acropolis. Maybe the most spectacular structure in the area is the Theatre, a remarkable piece of engineering built into the steep hillside. Pergamum’s library on the Acropolis (the ancient Library of Pergamum) is believed to be the second best in the ancient Greek civilization. The library at Pergamum was believed to contain 200,000 volumes, which Mark Antony later gave to Cleopatra as a wedding present.
