The journey to the east of the city in Samut Prakarn province, which lies in the Ancient City is very rewarding and worthwhile. The lands are roughly shaped like the map of Thailand, and in their corresponding locations geographically, replicas of ancient Thai monuments, temples and buildings have been recreated. There are 2 places not to be missed within: the Market of Yesteryear near the entrance, and a recreation of the Floating Market area of Kamphang Phet. There are small shops and stalls in both areas. Even though it’s been built now for about 10 years, the park is seemingly not very well known, and even at weekends and public holidays it does not get too crowded. Now that the buildings and monuments are well weathered, they have a real sense of authenticity, and together with its lovely setting the Ancient City has an atmosphere of the real, upcountry Thailand.
